Aldus is a reading app. We collect only what we need to run it. We do not sell your data and we do not show ads.
Rendezvous Ventures, Inc. is the company responsible for readers' data. Contact us at hello@aldus.club.
What we collect
- Account email. Used to sign you in with a one-time code and to contact you about your account.
- Reading activity. The books on your list, their status, your Read Hours, reading position, sessions, page counts, private thoughts and streaks.
- Onboarding answers. When you tend to scroll, which apps pull you in, and your first book. Used to set sensible defaults.
- Profile. A name and an optional photo you choose to add.
- Membership. If you subscribe, Apple processes the payment. We use RevenueCat to confirm your membership; it receives an app user ID and your purchase history, never your card details.
Discuss, the AI feature
Discuss is an AI that talks with you about a book. Every reply is labelled as AI. When you use it, your messages, the book's title and author, your spoiler line and, for free classics, the text of the chapter are sent to Google's Gemini API to write replies.
Aldus uses Gemini's free tier. Google may use free-tier inputs to improve its products. Do not write anything in Discuss you would not want shared with Google.
Discuss asks for your permission before anything is sent to Gemini, and records when you allowed it. You can withdraw permission at any time in You, Settings, with "Allow Discuss to use Gemini". Discuss then stops working and nothing more is sent.
Aldus is for readers 18 and over. We record that you confirmed this at sign-up.
Your conversations are private to you. You can delete them one by one or all at once in You, Discuss history. You can send up to 20 messages a day.
Reading friends and Season One
If you add reading friends, they see your first name, photo, minutes read today, streak and, if you allow it, the title of your current book. Blocking someone hides you both from each other. When you join Season One we keep when you read, whether you would like to meet in person, and your city if you give it. If you arrive through an invite link, we record the invite code.
Book search
Book search queries are sent to Open Library. Cover images load from Open Library.
Deleting your data
In the app, go to You, then Settings, then Delete my account. This permanently deletes your account and the data linked to it.
On your iPhone
Your Read Hours and the apps you choose for Catch the scroll are also stored on your iPhone, so the Shortcuts action can work without a connection. The barcode scanner reads the barcode on your device; no photo is kept.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while your account exists. When you delete your account we delete it, except anything the law requires us to keep.
Changes
We will tell you in the app when this policy changes.
